Green Velvet Cake

An Irish take on a classic cake. Wow friends and family with our Green Velvet Cake this St. Patrick’s Day

about 8 - 10 slices

Medium 60 Minutes



For the recipe  Green Velvet Cake

For the cake:

250 g Plain Flour
175 ml Buttermilk
100 g Unsalted butter
250 g Caster Sugar
2 Large Eggs
10 g Dr. Oetker Baking Powder (2 Tsp)
Dr. Oetker Green Extra Strong Food Colour Gel (2 Tubes)
10 ml Dr. Oetker Madagascan Vanilla Extract (2 tsp)
5 ml Vinegar (1 Tsp)

For the icing:

125 g Cream Cheese
125 g Unsalted butter
300 g Icing Sugar





Preheat oven to 170C and line a 7'cake tin or 2 sandwich tins


In a large bowl or processor cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy


Sieve the flour and Baking Powder together in a separate bowl


In a jug measure the buttermilk and add the Gel Food Colouring and vinegar


Add half the flour mixture to the egg and sugar mixture and combine


Add half of the now green buttermilk and vinegar and combine


Repeat again until all is combined and you are left with a thick batter


Pour the mixture into your tin and bake for 20mins if using sandwich tins or 35 minutes in a 7' tin


Remove from tins and leave to cool


Meanwhile make your buttercream by combining all ingredients together in a food processor and beat for 8-10minutes


When cakes are cooled sandwich together with1/3 of the buttercream and use the remaining buttercream to cover the outside
